About this event
30th Diversity Lecture Speaker- Robin Wall Kimmerer
This event is a partnership between two programs on our college campus. The Grand Rapids Community College Campus Common Reading Program provides extra-curricular support for the College’s mission of preparing individuals to attain their goals and contribute to their community through good teaching practices of promoting communication and trust between student and educator, cultivating community and collaboration across campus and throughout the community, and facilitating critical thinking and reflection. We do this by selecting a book to be shared across campus and providing thoughtful programs and engagement opportunities centered around the theme of the book. This collaborative effort will also be a part of the institutions 30th annual Diversity Lecture Series as well. aims to connect members of the community with people that hold a compelling interest in shaping a culture of inclusion and social justice.
The goal is to raise awareness and elevating exposure to the concepts of Braiding Sweetgrass and Indigenous ways of relating to the Earth. Bring our community together to discuss the reading and ways it could impact Grand Rapids Community College and the Grand Rapids area. Creating a space to support the Indigenous community at the college and in the area.
