In 1971, Nancy Nelson and her husband are hired as lookout attendants on Corral Hill Lookout in the Clearwater Forest. They report fires, endure isolation, and survive terrible lightning storms. In this coming-of-age memoir, Nancy wrestles with her abusive past, and gains courage as she moves into her creative future.
Local author, Nancy Canyon works as a writing coach for The Narrative Project and teaches through Chuckanut Writers. She holds the MFA from Pacific Lutheran University. Her books include Saltwater, Celia's Heaven, Women's Bodies, Women's Words, and STRUCK: A Season on a Fire Lookout. She lives in Bellingham, Washington with her artist husband, Ron and their dog, Lucy.
