Central North Carolina Human Trafficking Symposium
Central North Carolina Human Trafficking Symposium Central North Carolina Human Trafficking Symposium This course is intended to provide attendees with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to recognize human trafficking, conduct human trafficking investigations, and work effectively with social workers and human service providers to address victim needs during the investigation. A fundamental aspect of this course will be introducing officers to social workers and human service providers in their area who are able to assist victims and their children with needs and services.
Who Should Register?

Law enforcement officers and investigators, social workers, health care professionals, victim service providers, or human services providers who may be involved in human trafficking investigations. There is an agency limit of four (4). Lunch will be provided free of charge for all registered attendees.
Registration Information for Law Enforcment: In addition to registering through eventbrite, you will also need to register in ACADIS.

Housing will be on a first come, first serve basis. If you are interested in utilizing their dormitory facility, you must register using the following link no later than February 20th, 2025. In order to ensure housing availability, it is recommended that you register early.

Reporting Instructions and Housing Reporting Instructions and Housing If staying the night prior, March 5, 2025, Dormitory Check-In is permitted between the hours of 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., in Academic Building D. Failure to arrive by 9 p.m. will result in the reservation being cancelled. Check-Out on the morning of departure is no later than 8 a.m. and the room keycard will be turned into Admin D at that time. If commuting, check-in the morning of March 6 between 0700 and 0800 at the registration table in front of the auditorium.

Course Objectives Course Objectives • Define human trafficking, including the various forms it can take (e.g., sex trafficking, labor trafficking, domestic servitude).
• Discuss the prevalence of human trafficking throughout North Carolina communities. • Recognize the signs and indicators of human trafficking.
• Understand the psychological, physical, and social impacts of trafficking on victims. • Understand the roles that social workers and human services providers play in addressing the needs of human trafficking victims and their children.
• Strengthen the relationship between law enforcement officers and social work professionals to strengthen investigations and ensure a holistic approach to victim care and support.
• Understand the importance of a trauma-informed approach when working with trafficking survivors.
• Learn about the resources and referral networks available across North Carolina to assist victims of human trafficking and their children.
